ABOUT OUR FOUNDER
From arriving in Perth 16 years ago with $60 in her pocket and one suitcase of clothes (all appropriate for backpacking in South East Asia), Katrina Thomson’s journey to becoming an entrepreneurial yogini has seen quite the transformation.
Her accent plays tribute to growing up on the west coast of Canada, but she was born in Australia and through her early childhood here, developed a beautiful connection to our landscape and culture as a result. Her memories are saturated in the colours and textures of the Australian outback, from the red dirt of family camping trips to the deep blue ocean that played host to her swimming lessons.
Her return here was inevitable, so deep was her spiritual connection to Western Australia, and this attachment to the land provides inspiration in all her yoga teachings. Today, she continues to run daily classes from her oceanside sanctuary in the Swanbourne surf club after starting there eight years ago. Her retreats with Earth Body Ocean Yoga Adventures take guests’ yoga experience to the next level; strengthening intentions, planting seeds of creative ideas and embracing yoga as a lifestyle all from remote corners of the earth (from WA’s Karijini National Park to the Camino del Norte in Spain).
Now we see Horizon Yoga evolve again, as Katrina launches her wellness hub in Cottesloe where her love for yoga is truly brought to life. Perth’s leading yoga instructors join Katrina’s teaching team to guide you on the mat, while a concept store features a curated lifestyle collection that will allow you to create your own sanctuary at home and anchor presence in your life. Connection with her community is another high value of Katrina’s, so spend a while post-class in the elixir bar here and try elements of neurotrition to further nourish your body.

ABOUT OUR YOGA CLASSES
The most important message in my classes is to share the personal potential of connecting to your own practice. Yoga is not about how flexible you are, but the exploration of your own body through the direction of breath and personal alignment. The tools you will develop on the mat to tap into consciousness, patience, consideration, and honesty, will empower you to put these into practice day-to-day, helping enrich your life in all directions. ~ Katrina
